Buying a tablecloth may seem simple, but choosing the right size, shape, overhang, and material makes a significant difference. Discover the 5 key considerations and easily select a custom-fit tablecloth that perfectly suits your table and daily use.
Looking to buy a tablecloth? Here’s how to choose the right size, shape and fabric
A tablecloth instantly adds a neat and personal touch. With the right size, shape, overhang and fabric, you can create a table setting that complements your interior and is perfect for everyday use.
Whether you’re looking for a simple everyday option, a stylish linen tablecloth or want to dress up your table for a special occasion: with a made-to-measure tablecloth, you can easily choose one that complements your table perfectly.
1. Measure your tabletop
A well-fitting tablecloth starts with the dimensions of your tabletop.
Rectangular or square table: measure the width and length of the tabletop.
Round table: measure the diameter, from edge to edge through the centre.
Oval table: measure both the length and the width at the widest point.
Using these measurements as a starting point, you can easily put together a made-to-measure tablecloth that fits your table perfectly.

2. Choose the overhang that suits your table
The overhang is the part of the tablecloth that hangs over the edge of the table. This largely determines the overall look: sleek and modern, calm and neat, or, conversely, generous.
You can choose from:
No overhang: for a sleek, minimalist look.
Short overhang (15 cm): subtle and modern.
Standard overhang (20 cm): a neat choice that suits most tables.
Classic overhang (40 cm): generous and beautiful for special occasions.
Custom overhang: if you have a specific look in mind.
You can calculate the size of your tablecloth as follows:
Tablecloth length = table length + (2 × desired overhang)
Tablecloth width = table width + (2 × desired overhang)
You don’t need to work this out yourself in our configurator. Simply enter your table’s dimensions, choose your desired overhang, and you’ll immediately see which size suits your table.

3. Choose a shape that follows the lines of your table
A tablecloth that matches the shape of your table creates a beautiful, balanced look. So choose the shape that suits your tabletop.
Rectangular: a timeless and versatile choice for standard tables.
Square: ideal for compact tables in smaller spaces.
Round: creates a soft, even drape all round.
Oval: follows the elegant curved lines of an oval table.

4. Choose a material that suits your everyday life
A tablecloth isn’t just beautiful; it should also suit how you use your table.
Linen: natural, timeless and atmospheric. Linen gives your interior a warm and tranquil feel.
Cotton: soft, sturdy and suitable for everyday use.
Coated or washable: practical if you like to dine without a care, whether at dinner parties or outdoors.
So when making your choice, think not only about colour and style, but also about maintenance and when you’ll be using it. That way, you’ll choose a tablecloth that you’ll enjoy for years to come.

5. Give your table extra protection
Do you want to keep your tabletop looking its best whilst also creating extra comfort beneath your tablecloth? Then a table protector is a great addition. It helps protect against heat, moisture and knocks, whilst also muffling the sound of crockery and ensuring your tablecloth stays firmly in place.
There are various types of table protectors. Which option is best depends on your table and how you use it.
